This ceremony took place on a very warm day in mid-June, more specifically on the first day of summer. We had several county and city officials in attendance. Guests included our city mayor (Michael Milch), council members (Alexander, Cook, Garlington, Huckaby , Reichle, Roberts) Former Mayor Stemple, task force members (McClintock, O'Brian), Clackamas County Commissioners (Smith, Shull, Schrader, Savas, West), and Clackamas county administrator(Schmidt). Yes, there were golden shovels to turn over the first layers of dirt. This is a momentous ocassion that has been a source of discussion since the current library was designed and built back in the late 1940's. The new library will bring a fresh look to the downtown area, moderizing the look and feel of Gladstone, Oregon. This new library will bring vibrancy, excitement, and a sense of anticipation -- opening its doors to bring Gladstone together once and for all, as a united community.

This was a video we created several years ago to promote the need for a new library in Gladstone. It serves as a reminder of how far we have come in our fight to build a vibrant community with a library that meets everyone's needs.

The goal of GPL-Foundation is to provide the opportunity to all for lifelong education and development. We seek to not only help build the library and its programs, but also increase cultural awareness and pride in our community, find common ground for dialogue, and interaction among one another.
The foundation is independent of city and county government, with a 12 member all-volunteer board consisting of citizens of Gladstone, Clackamas, Oak Grove, Oregon City, and Milwaukie.
We are always looking for new members. Please contact us if interested: GPLF.Contactus@gmail.com
The GPL-Foundation, with the help of the community via gifts and donation, provides the library and community with support not only for reading and education programs, but also provides opportunities for enrichment. These include the popular summer reading program, and cultural passes.
